Fresh Blood - Under 19's Report

West Adelaide  V Norwood - 23.08.08

To keep our finals chance alive, this was a game to win.

Whilst we took the field with a very young team that included 15 U17 players, we were confident of being competitive.

The boys started well and we held our own against an opposition which was still smarting after we had defeated them in our two previous games.

At quarter time it was our 2 goals 4 to their 4 goals 4.

In the 2nd quarter, both teams had 6 scoring shots but we were inaccurate, managing only 1 goal 5 whilst Norwood scored 3 goals 3. At half time it was our 3 goals 9 to their 7 goals 7.

Changes were made to our team placings in an effort to give us more attacking potential. However, the opposition were able to hold us and their taller, stronger marking forwards finally got on top of us. We were outscored in the second half to lose  5 goals 16 to their 17 goals 17.

Our boys had patches of good play but were not able to sustain their efforts over the whole game.

Our best player was Dustin Head the U17 Co-Captain, who was consistent all day coming of the half back line. Jordan Turner coming back from injury was our second best with his best game for the year and third best was Tom Underwood who was very competitive at CHF and put his body on the line in contests. Michael Ward , Jesse Boundy our Acting Captain and Haydn Pierson were other boys to come under notice during the game.

Our goals kickers with one each were Mitch Eleftheriou, Brett Heintze, Brad Helbig, Dylan Ribbons and Michael Ward.

Two away games to go against Centrals and North. Lets finish the season on a high note with two wins.

It’s black shorts for these games.

C'mon the BLOODS.
