LEAGUE

Round 21 - West Vs. Norwood

Coming off our 2nd win we were all confident of a good game. The win against South did come at a cost losing Nathan Brown and Greg Rowe for the year and Ben Fisher and Jeremy Rowe for 1 game through heavy knocks. Our list has been truly tested this year with retirements, injuries and players moving on but in the long run I believe this experience will be beneficial for the players and coaches alike.

Finishing bottom for the 4th year is no fun at all and for you supporters and members the emotions and loyalty have been truly tested. I hope for those that still have the strong conviction to come to watch these young men have enjoyed the growth of some of our young players through the year and marvelled at the skills and courage of Ryan Ferguson. Damian Cupido’s form has been outstanding of late and David Piasente continues to give it all for the Bloods.

Our form over the last month has been some of our most competitive football all year. On the weekend we were narrowly beaten on the score board but the lessons learnt again will test the character and resolve of many players. It is always exciting to play young players....They have all arguably deserved their spot but on the weekend Norwood’s experienced players proved to be the difference. Our midfield were beaten and Brett Zorzi down back for them was outstanding.

Kurt Tippett, with 4 goals, was again a great target but our reluctance to kick inside 50 was infuriating at times.....Plenty to work on....

With two home games to go I hope you all make the effort to come and support the players.

Regards,

Andrew Collins

RESERVES

Round 21 - West Vs. Norwood

Saturday saw our list tested again with Daniel Webb, Alex Hutchins and Brad Wilson elevated to the senior team. Injuries to Luke Donaldson and Daniel Proud made way for Skara, McAllister, Williams, Shearer and Brown from the under 19 team.

The result was not as important as the opportunity for the coaches to see where fringe and upper age 19’s would be in 2009.

Youth bring enthusiasm to a group regardless of their skill level or size. Jono Beech was simply outstanding on a wing, clearly beating a more experienced opponent and carrying the ball inside 50 on numerous occasions.

Daniel Sukkell continues to impress with his hard in and under style and clean skills.

Michael Shearer was outstanding on the ball handling the muddy conditions and showing courage beyond his age group.

Ryan Plant and Leigh Gathercole repeated their good form, providing plenty run out of the back half.

For the first time in a while we had an even contest in our hitouts and clearances. It was our forward lines lack of pressure and team work that placed huge pressure on our defensive half.

Our concentration goes to beating Centrals at home this week. A must win game.
