U18 COE REPORT BY BOB MANNING - ROUND 17
23/07/2012 8:38:06 PM

Round 17  v Glenelg at Gliderol Stadium

Our selected Team was considered to be our best chance to give us a win for the first time in the minor round since start of the U18 competition. However, during the final minutes of our warm up prior to game start, Ryan Simister suffered a knee injury that required immediate attention. He took his position for start of the game, but came off after 5 minutes for strapping. He returned to the field but was not able to exert any pressure on his attempts to run so he was ‘subbed’ out of the game.

Glenelg jumped us right from the 1st bounce and had goals on the scoreboard before we re-acted. Their in-accuracy kept us in the game as they led 4goals 5 to our 3goals at quarter time.

With Ryan missing this had an impact on our ruck combinations. The second quarter was more of an even contest with the score at half time being our 6goals 1 to their 6goals 6.  Our back six were keeping us in the game, but we needed more positive play from our forwards.

We were still in the game, but we were not able to exert needed pressure on our opponents. In this quarter, Loucas Theodoulou , just back from injury , went down at the 13 minute mark with a similar ankle injury. We were down to one fit player on the bench. Our opponents in-accuracy again kept us in the game and they led 9goals 15 to our 8goals 2 at quarter end.

We started well in the final quarter but were off target with our shots at goal. Glenelg then took control and ran out easy victors, winning 16goals 19 to our 8goals 6.

Best players: Best was Ryan Dijksman with possessions and clearances all over the ground, Jye De Zylva was considered second best with many pressure acts, whist others to do well during the game were Rhys Smelt, Kaiden Brand, Miles Sumner and Simon Wong.

Goal scorers: Kaiden Brand and Simon Wong with 2 each and singles to Rhys Smelt, Miles Sumner, Brett Turner and Jesse Watchman.

We revert to normal training nights of Wednesday and Friday to prepare for our must win home game against North on Sunday, 29th July at 11.25am.
