ROUND 22: U18 C.O.E REPORT
30/08/2010 11:32:40 AM
U18s v Panthers at Hickinbotham Oval.
With the College football programme now completed, we have a full Squad available for Team selection. Some boys will be disappointed at missing out but they should take heart that they have played their part in the Team’s performance during the Season.
Although South were bottom Team, we were not to take them lightly as last week they played strongly against Glenelg to lose by 20 points.
We must improve our 1st quarter play as poor starts can have an influence on the outcome of the game.
With players dominant all over the ground, we controlled the play and led
6 goals 4 to 1 goal by South at the break.
We continued with the same effort in the 2nd quarter and led 12 goals 8 to
2 goals 4 at the long break.
Positional changes were made to the side for the 3rd quarter to see how players performed in different roles. We still used the ball to advantage but did not have the same impact as in the 1st half. We led 16 goals 11 to just 2 goals 5 by South at the last break.
Some players reverted to their original positions in the forward line as the Coach asked for a 20 goals scoreline. We achieved this, but we did relax as we allowed South to outscore us. Final score was our 20 goals 14 to 7 goals 6 by South.
With the finals in 2 weeks, we must be disciplined. Penalties against us because of indiscretions can change the course of the game, so it is imperative we accept the Umpire’s decision, they won’t change it. Just get on with the game.
Best Players: Brett Heintze controlled the ruck duels and marked the ball with confidence in field play, Thomas Keough again controlled CHF and was our focal target in attack, Lachlan Jennings capped off another good game, Rhys Smelt improves with each game and is not afraid to put his body on the line, Josh Farmer gave another reliable performance and Rory Laird whose College Footy has now ended just slots in at half back as if he has played every round.
Goals: Thomas Keough had 7, Lachlan Jennings with 3, Josh Farmer, Drew Gallard and Brett Heintze had 2 each whilst Aaron Anderson, Liam Clarke, Darcy Munn and Ryhs Sporn had singles.
Next week, Saturday 4th September, it is Norwood at home at 11.25am.
