The West Adelaide Football Club would like to congratulate Rory Laird who was drafted with selection 5 in the 2011 Rookie Draft to the Adelaide Crows.
Rory had an excellent Season with Scotch College and also with West Adelaide Under 18s and Reserves, but it was his stellar National Carnival with South Australia that thrust him into the sights of AFL Recruiters.
After being overlooked for game one of the carnival, Rory dominated the next three games beating his opponents and providing plenty of rebound and only narrowly missed out on All Australian honours, playing mainly as a small defender, with short stints in the midfield.
Rory trained at Essendon leading into the draft, but the Crows saw the talent and got in before Essendon could swoop him up. In a Great result for both Rory and The Bloods as Rory will remain on our list as an AFL listed player. We look forward to watching Rory develop both at the Bloods and the Crows.
