FROM THE COACH - ROUND 23
15/09/2011 9:47:41 AM

I have written the following more than once, “we expected to play in finals this year”.

Winning on Friday night and then listening to all the other SANFL games unfold on the Saturday just amplified the emotional roller coaster of this year. 8 wins and 12 losses when our goal was the reverse win/loss ratio.

It is a sickening feeling and I know it won’t go away easily.
David Piasente’s last game was a great tribute match for all he has contributed to our Club. Personally kicking 3 goals, he inspired the boys to put in a strong effort one last time for 2011.

If there was a positive at all this year, it’s that we as a whole club (players, coaches, board members, staff, club members, past players and especially our supporters) have greater expectations. I received a best wishes card with some kind words of encouragement reminding me the distance we have travelled and the unfinished journey still ahead.  This challenge is why I wanted to coach the West Adelaide Football Club.

Our Club has many challenges on and off the field. 28 years since our last premiership.

Already my thoughts are to next year.

Every coach realises he only has certain tenure to achieve results but I will say this to all who are negative towards our coaching and playing group. Become part of the solution and not the problem. Become a paid member, offer to be a sponsor if you can, come to support not criticise. Make a real effort to move us forward. Our Club needs good generous people who don’t mind rolling up their sleeves to help and dipping into their pockets to give a few dollars. Premierships are built around a strong Club and definitely not around selfish, negative individuals.

Finally I would like to thank the playing group and all the staff for putting up with my expectations of excellence. It is through doing all the little things well that will make the big things happen.

To all who want to help and support the Club moving forward, I thank you in advance.

Regards,
Andrew Collins
