FROM THE COACH - ROUND 20
25/08/2011 2:40:52 PM

How do we share with you all the relief that a single victory can bring to the playing group and all the staff who work so tirelessly on behalf of all who follow Westies?

The emotions of 7 losses in a row, all the enormous amount of hard work on the cold and wet winter nights when you just don’t feel like it because it just isn’t enjoyable when you lose. To turn it around during this dark period and to celebrate with the ritual of singing our song was fantastic. It is a great song.

On Thursday David Piasente announced his retirement to the group. David is a very courageous player with a passion for the red and the black. He has now played 146 games and his team-mates and I don’t want his career to end. He is much loved.

Saturday’s game was won in the third quarter and as the scoreboard ticked over, we witnessed a group playing some great football that we haven’t seen for a while. All areas of their game improved like a magic wand had been passed over them all. Football is an amazingly challenging game and you have to be brave to play it - maybe even a little crazy.

We now look forward to our next game with a great resolve to beat Glenelg at City Mazda Stadium on Friday night. Memory and recall is important in football. We now know victory again and I do remember the last time we played Glenelg. So do the players.

Regards,
Andrew Collins
