Round 18 V North Adelaide
A poor start to the game resulted in a five goal deficit at quarter time. This was definitely not the start to the game we were hoping for.
Adam Hartlett, David Piasente, Ben Fisher, Brad Moran, Fort Caruso and Matt Rankin were the 6 changes we made for this game, with three of these players coming back from long term injury. This was a decision I made, with the chance that it would help the group not only on Saturday but for the last 5 games. I felt I needed their physicality in this game combined with a need to get them match fit for the remainder of the year.
David , Ben and Adam showed glimpses of why we have missed them but they all require greater match conditioning. Brad Moran injured his calf early which was a big blow to the team and for him personally.
A quarter time huddle is a unique place - less than 5 minutes before we get ready to start go again . To the credit of the players they fought the game out. Their basics in decision making and execution remain a huge concern as we continue to work with the whole group. Brad Fisher (5 goals ) and Ryan Ferguson performed well, returning to some early season form. Steve Morris was again a standout, Aaron Fielke was strong in his role and Ryan Willits and Daniel Webb had some wonderful moments.
We had more possessions and inside 50’s yet the result was a seven goal loss. Our desperation for a victory is hindering our play with unhealthy anxiety levels that are affecting performance. A break from playing this weekend and a chance to get healthy in mind and body for all will be valued.
Regards,
Andrew Collins
NOTE: It was wonderful to have a couple of wins with really good performances from our reserves and under 18’s. Well done.
